My Story

My love for fitness began at an early age and through my entire life it has been a constant force. Professionally I have had the privilege of running a small business , teaching as a Lecturer at Rollins College in Florida and teaching business  courses as an adjunct instructor at Bucks County Community College. Last year I enjoyed having an impact on people with Parkinson's in helping develop an exercise program at the Cornerstone Wellness Center. Also as a Parkinson's fitness coach, PD advocate and a motivational speaker. Staying fit now takes on a new meaning for me since being diagnosed with Parkinson's ten years ago. Like many, my symptoms began with a tremor in my finger and a twisting of my foot. This was not my first meeting with Parkinson's. My Mother lived with Parkinson's many years. That is how I began my research to find out how to help her.  I have been fortunate to have many wonderful role models to help me through my journey. In addition to exercising, I found a new love, Ballroom Dancing. Dancing has helped keep my symptoms manageable and gives me great pleasure. My mission now is to share my  research, experiences, and training credentials  to help others.

Exercise and PD

"Exercise is an important part of healthy living for everyone. For people with Parkinson’s disease (PD), exercise is more than healthy — it is a vital component to maintaining balance, mobility and activities of daily living. Exercise and physical activity can improve many PD symptoms. These benefits are supported by research.

The Parkinson’s Outcomes Project shows that people with PD who start exercising earlier and a minimum of 2.5 hours a week, experience a slowed decline in quality of life compared to those who start later. Establishing early exercise habits is essential to overall disease management."

Moving Forward

It doesn't matter what activity, exercises or class you take, just move. However, there is research that has shown specific classes and movements address the symptoms of PD more specifically.

Throughout the site you will find helpful links that will answer many of your questions.

Move and Learn!

The key is to keep moving. There are some specific Parkinson's programs that help  Ideally vigorous exercise for 20 min 3 days a week or moderate exercise 30 min 5 days a week. See program links and descriptions below.
